The same great festival, just a little bit different
Bath Digital Festival is happening! Get yourself ready for the biggest celebration of digital and tech in the South West. Make sure to block out your diary and join us on 20th – 24th October 2020 for the virtual event of the year.
You might not be able to soak up the sights and smells of our historical and innovative city but, we promise a fun-packed online programme for the entire family to enjoy from the comfort of your own home.
This year, our event series will focus on recovery, skills and talent plus, we’ll be launching our brand new Digital Skills Exchange programme. So, if you’re looking to sharpen some skills, wondering who’s recruiting at the moment or new to the tech scene, there’s an event for you.
Learn to code, join an interactive workshop on artificial intelligence, discuss the modern ethics, join a masterclass in social media marketing or check out the latest tech. Our online programme will offer plenty for everyone to take part in and enjoy.

Approaching app security from a hackers perspective by Matt Brunt:
Much in the same way that to secure a house it helps to know how to break in, knowing how to attack our systems will help us secure them. You have a lot of data in your organisations. Whether you think it’s sensitive or not, it has value. Whether an attacker wants data for profit, a grudge, or just for fun we need to ensure that we don’t just leave the door open for them to take what they want. In this session we’ll start to think like a hacker. The what, why, who, where and how of an attacking mindset will leave you with practical steps you can take away and use to start protecting your systems a little better.
Manic Mondays is open for anyone wanting to catch up as always – just signup here.

Interactive installation playfully engaging with ideas around facial recognition technology
Face / On takes the form of an interactive door embedded with a facial recognition system. On approach, a persona is allocated at random, for example, Female 47. Only a face fitting the criteria in the eyes of the system will be permitted entry. It may be necessary to adopt a disguise in order to gain access. Using available tools (face swapping, filters, or ageing apps) it becomes possible to fool the door. In doing so, we build up an idea of how the system decides on such personal labels as age and gender. Do they align with our own ideas of identity? Where have these rules come from and what are the consequences? Face / On is an invitation to playfully engage with ideas around facial recognition technology.
