Community Action and Knowledge Exchange (CAKE)

UWE
UWE

UWE Bristol has been offering organisations in the community, voluntary and social enterprise sectors the opportunity to receive free consultancy on information management, business planning/strategy, training, IT, systems analysis, web sites, social media, or other ICT-related matters, in exchange for hosting a final year UG student project team from UWE Bristol. During the past years, our 100+ successful past projects have provided clients with advice, strategies and artifacts. The projects begin around the end of October 2022 and run until March 2023.

The teams are composed of final year BSc(Hons)IT Management for Business and BSc(Hons)Software Engineering for Business students, who take part in this Community Action and Knowledge Exchange (CAKE) module with the aim of making a difference in community settings whilst enhancing their knowledge and skills through meaningful, relevant community action.

Find out more about the consultancy and see examples of what our students have provided for many other organisations on our website: http://go.uwe.ac.uk/cake or https://www.uwe.ac.uk/business/business-services/recruiting-talent/student-consultancy/cake/student-consultancy-projects

The applications are open and the deadline for this year’s applications is Friday 9 September 2022. We strongly encourage you to apply now or ASAP.

If you would like to apply for the scheme, please complete the application form https://infohub.uwe.ac.uk/Form.aspx?id=42615576 (*before pressing the submit button please keep a copy of your application for your record).

ML Developer programs

At ML Developer Programs, we are trying to build a global network of machine learning communities. And we would like to invite you to join as one of the communities. Currently, we are operating TensorFlow User Groups and ML Google Developer Experts programs. And we also support general machine learning communities and help them build a solid community.

By joining our network, you can have access to Google Developers branded community campaigns. Your community can participate in various campaigns and activities which are distributed by Google Developers.

In the first quarter of this year, the team hosted ML Olympiad, an associated Kaggle community competition, leveraging Kaggle Community Competitions feature. Please, fill out this form if you are interested in joining the ML community network.

Tech Aquisitions

Just thought this may be of interest (we like to know who owns what …). Its also worth taking a look around their site for lots of interesting AI stuff such as “AI 101: How does supervised machine learning work?” and events

Technology deals are dominating the corporate landscape. Tech convergence is following tech disruption, as industries from healthcare to banking embed AI, IoT, Cloud Computing and beyond into their products and services. LIVE: M&A Roadmap

Our Events

We’re on holiday for Workshop Wednesdays now but will continue this week on the 2nd of August with the online events:

Hack Night

Conferences

DConf 22 London 1st – 4th of August

DConf is the largest meetup event of the D programming language community. Like many other annual gatherings throughout the world, we were sidelined for two years by events beyond our control. We’ve had regular meetups online to tide us over, but we’re eager to once again meet face-to-face in the real world. Whether you’re a long-time member of the D community or new, whether you’re heavily involved or lurk in the periphery, even if you aren’t currently active in the D community at all, we invite you to join us for four days of education, knowledge sharing, fellowship, and fun.

Others coming up that we have spotted you can find here.

As a suggestion from one of our lovely members (Thanks Gabs #1!), we have also set up a “buymeacoffee” page for those wanting to give us a small thank-you. Check it out here.

Women’s Tech Hub products

The candidates page advertises the skillsets of the women we have looking for roles in the area (and some of our male allies).

Jobs Board for those wanting to advertise specifically to our members in the area – check it out here.
