Cyber Security Taster Day with the University of Bristol
The university of Bristol are hosting their first online Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) Taster Day on this Thursday 25 February 2021 (10:00-17:00) for members of the community who are under-represented in the field of cyber security or come from a non-traditional educational route or background. The purpose of the CDT Taster Day is to explore the research opportunities available within our Trust, Identity, Privacy & Security (TIPS) CDT programme in Cyber Security and across standard PhD programmes.
During the CDT taster day, attendees will:
- experience the world of postgraduate research;
- discover how it engages with the current and future global challenges of cyber security; and
- learn about postgraduate research opportunities.
Sessions will include:
- Perspectives on interdisciplinary cyber security research
- Why cyber security research matters
- Thinking like a researcher
- Being a researcher
- Framing research questions
- Career opportunities for a PhD student
- Discuss the student experience with current CDT students
Also on the 25th of February we’re back with GirlGeekDinners with All roads lead to Rome – How different types of training and career paths can take you to landing a job in data analytics/science. Stuff we spotted and thought we would pass on in case you missed it
Google fired Margaret Mitchell following her support of Dr. Timnit Gebru, another fired Google AI ethicist. Dr. Gebru’s dismissal on Dec. 2 followed an she sent addressing the lack of women being hired at Google, in addition to an internal debate about one of her research papers.
Good job we didn’t buy one then! Its actually not too major and recalls are pretty common with new technology but nice to know all the same.
