GGD#88 – in preparation

It’s still a bit slow as things get back to some kind of reality but rest assured the cogs are working (albeit slowly) in the background. We may have some a robot offering coming up sometime soon!

GGD#87 A Problem Solving Toolkit or Why we’re much more useful than we think we are!

Back in ‘The Real’ with Scott Logic on the 24th of February

Scott Logic

Always great hosts and food (no pressure if you’re reading this Rupert!!).

A Problem Solving Toolkit or Why we’re much more useful than we think we are!

Laura Warren talks us through how she’s tackling problems and navigating a non-linear career in tech.

Laura is a Business Analyst with Scott Logic, working with client requirements for bespoke application development projects.

After completing a maths degree from the University of Bath, Laura started her career teaching maths at a secondary school.  She left to join an engineering consultancy, working as a Transport Modeller for four years, before joining Scott Logic to re-train as a Developer in 2019.  At Scott Logic Laura has worked for clients in the Healthcare, Finance, and Public Sector domains, and cross-trained to transfer her skills into Business Analysis in 2021.

Originally from Plymouth, Laura has lived in and around Bristol for the past decade and can often be found in the local vegan eateries, or tucked up in a café playing board games with friends.

Laura Warren has developed the concept of a Problem Solving Toolkit which enables her to apply experiences outside of technical roles to the challenges she’s encountered as a Developer.  As she re-launches herself as a Business Analyst on an upcoming assignment, she’d like to share how this approach has enabled her to forge a non-traditional career path, through recounting personal stories and experiences.

Rules

Sign up on Meetup (please note this is a women-only group – if you would like to attend then please contact us at info@wthub.org and we can add you as a guest)

As always, we welcome men to our group, but to keep our audience predominantly female, we ask that all men are accompanied by a woman (just add a +1 on when you sign up)

With Covid still hanging around like an unwelcome uninvited house guest (who always drinks the last of the milk!) we would like people to have a lateral flow test if they have any symptoms before turning up. We’ll update with Scott Logic rules when we get them.

Please also check our code of conduct for rules around social media recruitment and behaviour.
