An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Lead Test Automation Engineers to join our Software Engineering team. These roles will provide technical leadership in software testing and assurance, supporting and enabling our development teams in their delivery of the UKHO digital vision.

About the UKHO

UKHO is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. We work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners, surveying and charting the world’s oceans in order to develop and serve world leading software and data solutions to commercial shipping companies, navies and maritime organisations. Our products ensure safe navigation and global trade efficiency and support other marine activities including economic development, environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific research and security and defence.

About the role

As a Lead Test Automation Engineer, you will be an authority on testing, supporting development teams by promoting best practice, enabling test automation, mentoring both testers and developers and researching new test tooling and practices.

The role will involve a high degree of working with our third-party delivery teams – assisting with test approach creation, ensuring they work to our test standards and assisting to resolve any day-to-day issues or questions.

You will set your own agenda and workload rather than being a member of a scrum team. A typical day could look like:

  • Working with a development team to help them resolve an issue with their delivery pipeline.
  • Contributing to a sprint event to guide a team on the best automation options for user stories.
  • Pairing with another Lead Test Engineer to investigate a new test tool.
  • Mentoring a junior tester.
  • Writing a blog on work that you have done that will be of interest to the wider test community.

One of the benefits of the role is seeing your contributions leading to better practices being used by teams and individuals

We are looking for proven technical leaders with comprehensive understanding of modern testing techniques, including test automation, functional testing, non-functional testing, and technical breadth. In addition to your broad range of experience in creating automated tests in .Net, you will have the ability to communicate with colleagues with varying levels of technical knowledge.

In return

UKHO is a great place in which to explore your career potential. While our projects are career-defining, the work/life balance that we can offer you is equally exceptional. From flexitime, flexible working, an award-winning office environment and a generous annual leave allowance of 34.5 days including public holidays, the opportunities open to you here are hard to beat.
