What you’ll be doing

  • You will work closely with the Electronics Team Lead to grow and develop the team.
  • You will work closely with the Electronics Team Lead to support and guide internal project development.
  • You will help improve existing process and procedures to work towards international gold standards for medical device development.
  • You will act as a multiplier by building systems, authoring tools, or introducing policies or patterns that raise the level of productivity of the entire company.
  • You will guide and help members of the team in projects other than your own and be seen as a role model and mentor.
  • You will be able to quickly break down complex problems into potential solutions while also highlighting the immediate risks
  • You will design brave, exciting and cutting-edge wearable products for women in a newly emerging femtech industry.
  • You will see your design progress from concept to mass production and beyond
  • You will liaise with other departments (Operations, Procurement, Manufacturing, Project Management to name a few) to understand their requirements or challenges and then provide solutions to help them
  • You will draw schematics and layout PCBs to meet design requirements, this may include designing supporting test equipment to aid product development and mass manufacture
  • You will peer review and update prototype designs and adapt them for mass manufacture considering any requirements for regulatory certification (e.g., FCC, FDA, CE)
  • You will source components for your designs and create costed BoMs
  • You will order and manage lead times for components and PCBs while meeting with various vendors to develop business relationships
  • You will write, test and debug firmware for products should they require a microcontroller. Sometimes you may need to develop software to support firmware development and mass manufacturer testing.
  • You will provide technical support for customer care and other departments for existing products in the field
  • You will keep up to date on the latest news in the electronics industry evaluate upcoming novel technologies that may lead to future product ideas

Requirements

  • You should have demonstrable experience equivalent to 10 years in the industry
  • You will have experience with reviewing work of peers and managing their workflow
  • You have a good understanding of product development life cycles / liaising with Contract Manufacturers
  • A degree in science or engineering or equivalent vocational experience
  • A solid understanding of electronic theory
  • Drawing of schematics and drafting PCB layouts with an appreciation for EMC, Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Cost (DFC) when appropriate using a PCB design package.
  • You can compile fabrication packs of your designs for PCB manufacturers and source components to create costed bill of materials
  • You can research existing and novel technical solutions to solve design requirements and have experience with various silicon vendors
  • Demonstrable ability to develop firmware using C/C++ programming language or other appropriate languages, tools and toolchains. This will also include fault finding and debug hardware and firmware using various techniques and equipment including logic analysers, oscilloscopes, and debug probes

Desirable skills

  • You have experience of Medical Device development
  • You have an understanding of key regulatory standards including IEC 60601, IEC 62304
  • You are comfortable with software development to aid in your hardware and firmware development with languages such as python
  • You have experience in MCUs including ARM Cortex M design and development this may include various connectivity protocols including Bluetooth Low Energy and WiFi
  • You are comfortable with repositories and versioning of hardware and firmware files
  • You are comfortable using Altium Designer to draw schematics and PCB layout
  • You are comfortable with unit and integration testing throughout the development of your firmware
