The role

The IT Services department is a key player in our vision to deliver inspiring education, innovative research, and civic engagement through providing world-class services and digital solutions. We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, passionate, and experienced professional to manage our identity management and building access management systems.

The role is part of a wider Solutions and Systems Development group that develops, maintains, integrates, and supports business, education, and research applications, both bespoke and third-party. The team of five install, upgrade and provide support for a variety of applications including the University’s web site infrastructure, identity management, building access management and sports facilities. Several critical business processes and infrastructure are dependent on this team for support and development.

What will you be doing?
You will work in a technical service management capacity supporting enterprise critical applications and in particular supporting the University’s identity management, building access management and sports facilities services. You will be part of an enthusiastic, supportive and collaborative team, with opportunities to learn new skills from colleagues and through other development opportunities.

The day-to-day activities include incident management, solving complex technical problems, and service improvement. The role also involves planning, delivering upgrades, writing technical documentation, and ensuring data integrations function as required. There will be opportunities to work on projects to implement new services, and internally driven continual improvement initiatives.

You have:

A good understanding of the management of incidents, service requests and changes.
The ability to provide solutions, or workarounds to technical problems often under pressure.
The willingness to learn, develop and challenge within a collaborative and supportive environment.
Experience of working within a server environment, in particular Windows and/or Linux.
Experience of working with databases including Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle, MySQL etc.
Experience of installing, upgrading and patching applications in a Windows and/or Linux environment.
An appreciation of the requirement to maintain high standards of secure working and the security of systems.
Experience of using scripting languages and SQL.
Excellent communication skills are required to work with the business, other IT teams, and 3rd party suppliers.
Experience of using code repositories and deployment pipelines is desirable.
