GGD #80 Data Fuelled Growth: Why and How to implement with your product Thursday the 20th

Data fuelled Growth
How can you use data to make fast, confident decisions? Pippa will discuss how to use data and experiments to grow your product and how data can align marketing campaigns, engineering and product.
About Pippa Churcher
Pippa is head of Growth at Bristol-based Candide, the app for plant-loving humans founded in 2018. She manages experiments to optimise acquisition and retention, but her career initially started by studying Anthropology at university. She then worked at the National Trust, connecting people with conservation through events and marketing, moving to another technology company before finding Candide, where she helps create a digital space for plant and nature lovers.
She also climbs a lot of mountains – the relevance of which will be divulged during her talk!
Other Stuff
Workshop Wednesdays
Along with our Peer supported learning/co-working at our Bi-weekly Workshops sessions this week the 12th of February you can sign up for:
Women’s Tech Hub Python beginners
This workshop is for those interested to learn Python and is aimed at both beginners and those with a little Python experience. The topics and examples are chosen such that you can directly use Python for a Data Science project afterward. Someone who comes to all the sessions (and does some practicing at home) will have covered the pre-requisites for a typical Data Science Bootcamp by the end of the workshop.
This week they will be concentrating on Programming fundamentals to include Conditionals, For/while loops & Try/except statements.
Bristol Data Science and Machine Learning Study Group
We are currently focusing on the fast.ai ‘Practical Deep Learning for Coders v3’ course (https://www.fast.ai/). Don’t forget to bring your own laptop, headphones, and a friend too!
CodeHub’s WebDev101
WebDev101 is a self-directed study group for everyone interested in improving their knowledge of any subject in the field of web development. As we are not instructor-led, you will only get out what you put into this group!
CodeHub’s Python Dojo
People who train in martial arts attend dojos, where they practice and try to expand their skills and achieve self-improvement. The idea is that in order to become an expert in anything you need to repeatedly perform *deliberate practice*. Dojos are also places where people of variable experience levels can engage with each other, share knowledge and give support. A Code Dojo tries to take those ideas and apply them in the process of mastering programming languages.
NEW** ”Intro to: Angular”
In collaboration with CodeHub members, each fortnight an introductory talk on different tech-related subjects. Let us know if there is a subject you would like to hear/share. This week learn about Angular: what is it, why use it, a brief history and more!
Bring a laptop, though not essential, they’ll be a demonstration of building a simple app after the presentation part, which you may or may not want to follow along with.
Conferences
We advertise any conference details we spot on our conference page – we’ll give you highlights here (our events and ones with offers come first and loudest obviously!)
Innovating for Resilience – February the 11th
The annual SIG conference returns in February 2020 in Bristol as SIG-X, with an expanded exhibition space and great range of presentations: Join us in Brunel’s iconic Passenger Shed at Bristol Temple Meads station on 11th February for a day of presentations, demonstrations, and exhibitions, bringing together NR and Supplier representatives interested in innovations past, present and future. This year there is a theme of “innovating for resilience”, recognising many of the challenges facing the new Network Rail Regions in building a more resilient railway.
WISE CDT / WET Networks Bristol – Joint Event – February the 12th
The WISE CDT Industry Day will showcase about 40 current research projects in themes such as Enhancing Infrastructure Resilience, Water Resources: Supply and Quality, Coastal and Marine Processes, and Flood Risk and Prevention. The event will also explore ways in which organisations can engage with the WISE CDT to tackle the challenges they face. The aim is to stimulate new partnerships, leverage for collaboration on research, and routes to impact and implementation for current and future research. About 60 WISE CDT research students and academics will be available for discussions and to develop new partnerships. A full list of WISE CDT research projects can be found in our Industry Brochure.
