It’s Launch (and Data) week

Workshop Wednesdays starts on the 22nd

This is the week we have been waiting for as we finally kick off our Workshop Wednesdays taking over the entire third floor of the lovely Desklodge House. The space is open to all and you can join up on Women’s Tech Hub to pop along – and YES men are welcome as members with Women’s Tech Hub .. we considered maybe renaming it to “Wo Men’s” so it wasn’t so scarey but thought that really, the type of men we want to see, would get over their fear of the word and sign up.

We plan to run workshops around different themes so if you want to put together some training/workshops around Python, Javascript, UX, learning Salesforce etc then speak to us and we can plan it in. We are also planning on running some for our founders and start ups as well as supporting the local bootcamp cohorts to help them get work.

This week we have the wonderful Mia Impey ADLIB’s Diversity and Inclusion specialist doing a workshop on CV’s.

Amy Newton will be giving a talk on “Essentials of a business plan in raising bank funding for your business” to help out start ups – for this you can sign up on Women’s Tech Founders (same rules re gender as above … I mean it’s not like MANPOWER only get men into jobs – or do they?)

It’s Data Week 2019

The Jean Golding Institute is running a week long series of workshops, talks and events in the field of data science and data-intensive research. Including Python, open data, reproducible research, data analysis, live coding, deep learning and more. So rather than individually naming all the free data training options please click the link and sign up! So for all you Data geeks out there – sign up and pop along as they look great!

GGD #75 Smart usability testing on a budget, QA and upskilling with JustEat

We are sponsored by JustEat for Bristol GirlGeekDinners this Week (23rd) and we have three great speakers:-

  • Swetha sethu-jones, a Senior UX Researcher talking about Smart usability testing on a budget
  • Maryia Radchuk, a UI Engineer talking about her journey as a self-learner developer (she was a banker!)
  • Amarpreet Sandhu, Principal Test Automation Engineer talking about how the role of QA has changed over the years,

News & events coming up

There’s a few conferences and events coming up – plus we are putting some cunning plans in place to run our next Tech Careers Fair in collaboration with a different ‘power of three’. This will be running at the Colston Hall during the new Bristol technology Festival, in the Bristol Tech Fair on the 9th November alongside Technotopia and the WISE campaign. Which, incidentally is running just a week before … TEDx Bristol – who currently have a call out for speakers here

Both events rely on sponsors and would be more than made up to be paid for their efforts, TEDx Bristol is one of the biggest events of the year in Bristol and is great for naming association! The careers fair will have the opportunity to sponsor a stand as with our March event and will support the WISE event. Technotopia is reliant on sponsors and companies wishing to run childrens workshops or sponsor a creche etc (so their mums can pop up and talk jobs with the careers Fair companies). So if you want any more info contact us on info@wthub.org and we can send you details and an intro – or simply contact them directly!
