As a follow on from our previous Tech³Shed engaged careers fair in March we have gotten together with Technotopia and the WISE campaign to run what promises to be a brilliant and fun day, mixing discussion, with careers and children!! So put it in your diaries that we’ll be at the Colston Hall on the 9th of November!
Happy History of Math 2.0 Day
“A celebration of the blending of technology and mathematics. For a lot of us, math wasn’t a favorite subject, we’d spend the entire period staring at the equations and wondering what sort of livid madman designed these torture chambers on paper. Ultimately, however, we realised that math is utterly indispensable in our modern world.”

To all our Canadian friends and family on July the 1st! (its also national icecream month btw)
We have a few things coming up around wellbeing at work and mental health and while we try to keep this to positive Tech stuff we do think it’s worth sharing a couple of things …
The Tech to Connect Challenge is looking to help civil society develop their early stage ideas for tech that enables more or better interactions between people. Tech can be alienating or divisive for those that are isolated, so we want to help civil society translate their knowledge into good ideas for new ways to connect people.
RSA: The Power of People for Transformative Change – “Connect: Create: Collaborate” Thursday 8th August from our friend Michelle Preston
” What are the differences between community, network and movement? Join us at this one day conference to explore and understand how connected communities, nurturing networks and meaningful movements provide opportunities for us all to “connect: create: collaborate”. “
We also spotted this – a practical film about it showing in BATH, SCREENING OF ‘STEVE’ this Wednesday. They are our brothers/fathers/friends/partners or children and we know of far too many of our members affected so well worth a look.
… and as part of PRIDE we spotted a techy related event Pride of Science on Friday the 5th
We are also involved with a new technical Advisory board with UWE and they have just announced their new masters 1 year Full-time/2 year part-time MSc Financial Technology has been validated, which we love as it spans Finance and Tech, and is a great course to do to help transfer into a very vast growing sector of the Tech world.

Social Media Week is a global conference held in over 25 cities worldwide. Participate in the Bristol edition and attend events across the city which are designed to upskill, inform, explore ideas and opportunities and further the conversation on key issues in media, marketing and technology. For full details you can check out the main website Social Media Week on from the 10th to the 14th – we’re expecting that they’ll be publicising it well!
Starting at the next Workshop Wednesday 19th June, Kathryn (from CodeHub (https://www.codehub.org.uk/) will be kicking off self-led python study group(s). The aim is to bring together people who want to learn or improve their python skills, provide suggestions on learning materials/courses, and share experiences on what makes effective self-led groups. At the end of the evening we’d hope that there would be one or more groups who have agreed to study together and have, at least, planned the next step.
All levels and genders are welcome, though the focus is likely to be on those who are less (or no) experienced in python. We would warmly welcome those who have a few python skills already and would be willing to support the groups – it will be a fun way of helping your own development, as well as being a great addition to your CV!
GrrrlGames will also be there ” Grrrl Games is for women* interested in the field of game development. We meet up on the first Tuesday of every month in Bristol, for talks, practical sessions and group discussions on all areas of gaming. “
Any companies wishing to engage by paying for pizzas and drinks and running workshops etc please get in touch on firstname.lastname@example.org.
