The role
The Faculty of Engineering is looking to recruit a skilled and motivated Research Associate or Senior Research Associate role to join the pro² network+ team. You will bring skills and expertise in digital device production, from a range of possible backgrounds that could include human-computer interaction, IoT or embedded device design, electronic engineering or digital manufacturing. The pro² network+ is an EPSRC-funded network that aims to improve the transition process from prototype to product for digital devices. We are helping to form and inform a community of people who share the common goal of accelerating the production of digital devices that can improve our everyday lives.

This is an 18-month position, with the possibility of extension depending on funding availability and performance. The 18-month term begins on the date the successful candidate starts the role.

The successful candidate will be offered a position as either a Research Associate (I) or a Senior Research Associate (J), depending on their skills, qualifications, and experience.

What will you be doing?
This role will work with the pro² network+, a leading team of experts across UK Universities, to collect, synthesise and publish research on the current landscape of approaches to device-building, and future opportunities for new approaches.

The post holder will comprehensively map existing device-building tools and techniques with particular attention to the challenges of low-volume manufacturing which are a key focus area for the pro² network+.

A second key deliverable for this position is to identify new standards that could be used to ensure compatibility and interoperability across a range of low volume components and manufacturing infrastructure. There will also be opportunities to identify and explore new tools and techniques for device prototyping and production, especially with regard to low-volume production.

In addition to the above key duties, you will also be expected to publish research findings in high-impact conferences and journals, present results at seminars, and contribute to the preparation of grant proposals to secure additional research funding.

You should apply if:
Candidates should have the following qualifications and experience:

A PhD or working towards a PhD in a relevant discipline including computer science, software engineering, electronic engineering, embedded systems or manufacturing.
Knowledge around the challenges of fabricating digital devices.
Well-developed analytical skills including the ability to find, interpret, and summarise qualitative and quantitative data.
Ability to communicate complex information clearly, both orally and through the written word.
Additionally candidates for a grade J position would be expected to have:

Specialist knowledge in digital device prototyping, production and fabrication.
Knowledge around the challenges of producing digital devices at low volumes.
Experience of drafting policy briefs or reports for multiple stakeholders.

Role Purpose:

We have an exciting Manager opportunity for our MoD IS Programme. The Digital Delivery Manager is responsible for overseeing the technical delivery team and ensuring the quality of the product.

This role will lead, inspire and manage a Team of some 30 permanent staff, working with the Authority and end Customer to ensure the delivery of all changes for the MoD IS Programme.

The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day activities and outputs of the team and shall ensure that staff are performing to the highest levels and accurately recording activity and delivering outputs that are aligned to the agreed requirements of any project or change. The manager will ensure that team members have the necessary skills; or shall liaise with the wider organization to obtain them to ensure that changes can be delivered consistently and on time according to the BtG Contract SLAs.

This role will have an important bearing in BDUK and partnering is a key to the success of current and future programmes, which must be continually developed and maintained. The Manager is responsible for all of the performance management of the team and will do so in accordance with Boeing policies and procedures.

The individual must have a keen eye for detail and the ability to address ever-changing priorities and demands whilst maintaining a cast iron focus on the strategic direction of the team ensuring it is fit for the future and able to cope with demands from customers in a rapid, responsive and iterative manner.

You will be joining a Programme currently undergoing restructuring to ensure ongoing management and delivery of Services and change is Agile and efficient to continue with this success of the current programme and ensure that delivery is in line with expectations and continuously improved according to both industry standard approaches and the requirements of our customers. You will be joining a Programme currently undergoing restructuring to ensure ongoing management and delivery of Services and change is Agile and efficient to continue with this success of the current programme and ensure that delivery is in line with expectations and continuously improved according to both industry standard approaches and the requirements of our customers. You will be accountable for managing the end-to-end delivery/sustainment of multiple Services in line with agreed SLAs and KPIs by leading, motivating and driving a team of some 30 individuals across the following processes, and incidents, delivering service requests & core contract activity.

This role will have an important bearing in BDUK and partnering is key to the success of current and future programmes, which must be continually developed and maintained. About the role:

The Enterprise Data Warehouse team ingests, shapes, stores and facilitates the provision of operational data to support product owners, data analysts and business users across Jisc’s business. Our mission is to provide a set of well-managed, reliable data platforms, associated data access technologies and advice to help exploit business value from them. These assets are also used to help fulfil the company’s traditional statutory reporting obligations.

Our core services include:

  • Managed data platforms integrating data from core CRM, Employee and Finance systems with 100’s of data sources across the business, allowing actionable information and insights from those data assets to be exploited by the wider business.
  • Dashboard design, prototyping, and development and supporting business intelligence users within Jisc.
  • Support and mentoring colleagues wanting to self-serve their own data needs for internal use or as a component of Jisc service offerings

The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst will lead projects to deliver Tableau dashboard solutions and manage implementation of that work through analysis, planning, testing and release phases of a project.

  • Working with other technical professionals to develop specifications for integrating data to meet complex business intelligence and analytic requirements
  • Identify opportunities for data analysis to exploit Jisc’s wider data assets to support strategic decision making
  • Develop Jisc’s business intelligence strategy and help develop the Group CTO Analytics and Data Projects team into a centre of excellence
  • Foster collaborative relationships to enable multi-disciplinary and cross-functional working with significant teams and stakeholders across Jisc
  • Maintain an up to date understanding of best practices and innovations relating to business intelligence to support the development of our solutions and approaches
  • Design training workshops, maintain the self-service reporting environment and lead uptake of self-service reporting
  • Support team members with data investigations and other support activities including root cause analysis and use of ML/AI tools (Einstein, Chat-GPT, Co-Pilots) as they evolve

Specific duties may vary without changing the general character of the duties or level of responsibility entailed.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Working with Tableau Server to publish workbooks, data source and manage permissions.
  • Working with data systems, including relational databases, and querying with SQL query language.
  • Data visualisation design and implementation with a modern business intelligence tool (e.g. Tableau, Power-BI).
  • Strong analytical skills and thorough understanding of how to interpret business needs to provide actionable insight from data.
  • intelligence developer producing high quality dashboards and support materials.
  • Experience managing solutions from requirements through user-acceptance to release.
  • Experience in applying technology to solve business problems and learning new tools or languages to help solve those problems.
  • Experience strategic leader giving thought leadership in this area
