To support us with the successful delivery of new and exciting projects, we are looking for a skilled Controls Engineer with experience integrating and programming industrial robotic systems. We are particularly seeking candidates with experience on Fanuc robots: commissioning, writing TP & Karel programs, and using them to solve complex industrial problems.
Our products are varied in scope and field. From simple machines processing a dedicated task, to complex customisable cells with many robots, production steps and integrated technologies ranging from cameras, lasers, waterjet cutters and even chainsaws. Our bespoke machinery can be very complex, and each of the constituent parts must operate seamlessly together.
As our new Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for developing software, using a diverse codebase. We use a wide variety of industrial robotic and controls platforms, such as Fanuc and Kuka robots, Beckhoff and Siemens PLCs and many other devices with their own associated environments and languages. You will be confident commissioning new equipment, following detailed user manuals, and debugging common electrical issues.
This is a role where no two days, or projects, are the same. The successful applicant will have a passion for robotics and automation, be curious & inquisitive, and a natural problem solver. They will work on their own initiative to learn new technologies, and have a ‘knack’ for making things work.
This role can be Hybrid, with regular travel required to our offices in Bristol and Dorchester. You will be required to visit client sites, across a number of different sectors, including defence. As a result, the successful candidate will need to be a British Citizen and be able to obtain security clearance up to Developed Vetting level.

You will ideally have used EPLAN electrical design software and have experience designing industrial control cabinets. The successful candidate will play a supporting role in the design, build, test and ongoing support of automated electromechanical systems and subsystems. The pro² network+ is an EPSRC-funded network that aims to improve the transition process from prototype to product for digital devices. We are helping to form and inform a community of people who share the common goal of accelerating the production of digital devices that can improve our everyday lives.
This is an 18-month position, with the possibility of extension depending on funding availability and performance. The 18-month term begins on the date the successful candidate starts the role.
The successful candidate will be offered a position as either a Research Associate (I) or a Senior Research Associate (J), depending on their skills, qualifications, and experience.
What will you be doing?
This role will work with the pro² network+, a leading team of experts across UK Universities, to collect, synthesise and publish research on the current landscape of approaches to device-building, and future opportunities for new approaches.
The post holder will comprehensively map existing device-building tools and techniques with particular attention to the challenges of low-volume manufacturing which are a key focus area for the pro² network+.
A second key deliverable for this position is to identify new standards that could be used to ensure compatibility and interoperability across a range of low volume components and manufacturing infrastructure. There will also be opportunities to identify and explore new tools and techniques for device prototyping and production, especially with regard to low-volume production.
In addition to the above key duties, you will also be expected to publish research findings in high-impact conferences and journals, present results at seminars, and contribute to the preparation of grant proposals to secure additional research funding.

The Digital Services Manager is accountable for the quality of their service. In this role, you will manage end-to-end services that include multiple products and channels.
This role requires a dynamic, diligent and organized individual who has strong Stakeholder Management, negotiation and diplomacy skills. This role will manage customer expectations and deliver in line with operational needs with a customer first mind-set. There will be a need to be able to work in a high paced environment, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple streams of work at one time.
You will be joining a Programme currently undergoing restructuring to ensure ongoing management and delivery of Services and change is Agile and efficient to continue with this success of the current programme and ensure that delivery is in line with expectations and continuously improved according to both industry standard approaches and the requirements of our customers. There will be a need to be able to work in a high paced environment, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple streams of work at one time.
You will be accountable for managing the end-to-end delivery/sustainment of multiple Services in line with agreed SLAs and KPIs by leading, motivating and driving a team of some 30 individuals across the following processes, and incidents, delivering service requests & core contract activity.
This role will have an important bearing in BDUK and partnering is key to the success of current and future programmes, which must be continually developed and maintained. The overall objectives are to ensure the utility and warranty of services in meeting Service Level Agreements and key Performance Indicators across the programmes which are supported.
The individual must have a keen eye for detail and the ability to address ever-changing priorities and demands whilst maintaining a cast iron focus on the strategic direction of the team ensuring it is fit for the future and able to cope with demands from customers in a rapid, responsive and iterative manner.
