Workshop Wednesday kicks off its new term

Our members and our collaboration with CodeHub has had loads going on behind the scenes with some very great free training options being offered up. So if you are interested in getting into tech, pop along and try it out for free before deciding or committing on your future options in a friendly and helpful pain-free way.

We have a new Candidates page and will advertise the skillsets of the women we have looking for roles in the area (and some of our male allies). Please speak to us if you are interested in any of them – and if you are looking for a job in the area then please let us know and we can try and help you – mail us on info@wthub.org

We have a Jobs Board for those wanting to advertise specifically to our members in the area – check it out here. If you are interested in one of the roles then please contact us and we can help you consider if its a job that will suit you and make an introduction.

Free Three Fridays

Women: we moved our Free Free Fridays to be much more Career support based, helping, as much as we could support those members of ours who were looking to move, return or change careers. Through this, we have managed to see many of our members get great new jobs and/or careers.

To extend this we now include a Jobsboard and also a candidate page so we can offer up our members to companies looking for diverse candidates.

We Started our Workshop Wednesdays to host Workshops and peer to peer-supported learning and added an option to sponsor them and engage /run workshops. This week it’s all about TEDxBristol!

TEDx speakers lineup

A big thanks to all our lovely sponsors and volunteers that came to our tech3shed careers fair on Saturday, you are what makes it worth it. We had some great discussions and it was brilliant to also see so many of our women who have got back into the industry and see you all doing so well!

We’re super excited to be partnered with TEDx Bristol and will be there on the 17th to meet all the lovely attendees and speakers.

There is a brilliant line up of speakers for this year’s TEDxBristol! 

They are an unbelievably inspiring group of individuals with a whole spectrum of ideas, from how we tackle antibiotic resistance, to rebooting the way we teach young people about sex, or the fashion industry’s attitude to disabled people. These really are Bristol’s trailblazers and innovators. 

You can be there and join them at Reflect: Rethink: Reboot on 17 November at Bristol Old Vic – a day of live inspirational talks and activities focused on not just surviving, but thriving in uncertain times. Tickets are on sale now!

Tech-wise theres a talk from Paul Wiseall from DEATH.io which helps plan around things such as your digital death, Drew Benvie talking about how to reboot social media and Stephanie Campbell CEO of Bristol-based OKKO Health rethinking how we approach health in the digital age. There’s loads of other great speakers there too that should pique your interest and you can use our discount as one of our members TEDXFRIEND19.

We are pleased to announce our final Girl Geek Dinners meetup of the year will be at Cookpad on the 14th of November. We are really excited to have Viki Johnson for GGD #79 User Experience in AR – sign up here. It’s our first ever visit to cookpad and we know they have a super cool kitchen so we really can’t wait.

It’s Launch (and Data) week

Workshop Wednesdays starts on the 22nd

This is the week we have been waiting for as we finally kick off our Workshop Wednesdays taking over the entire third floor of the lovely Desklodge House. The space is open to all and you can join up on Women’s Tech Hub to pop along – and YES men are welcome as members with Women’s Tech Hub .. we considered maybe renaming it to “Wo Men’s” so it wasn’t so scarey but thought that really, the type of men we want to see, would get over their fear of the word and sign up.

We plan to run workshops around different themes so if you want to put together some training/workshops around Python, Javascript, UX, learning Salesforce etc then speak to us and we can plan it in. We are also planning on running some for our founders and start ups as well as supporting the local bootcamp cohorts to help them get work.

This week we have the wonderful Mia Impey ADLIB’s Diversity and Inclusion specialist doing a workshop on CV’s.

Amy Newton will be giving a talk on “Essentials of a business plan in raising bank funding for your business” to help out start ups – for this you can sign up on Women’s Tech Founders (same rules re gender as above … I mean it’s not like MANPOWER only get men into jobs – or do they?)

It’s Data Week 2019

The Jean Golding Institute is running a week long series of workshops, talks and events in the field of data science and data-intensive research. Including Python, open data, reproducible research, data analysis, live coding, deep learning and more.
