Happy Canada Day!

Dog with Candian flag glasses

To all our Canadian friends and family on July the 1st! (its also national icecream month btw)

We have a few things coming up around wellbeing at work and mental health and while we try to keep this to positive Tech stuff we do think it’s worth sharing a couple of things …

The Tech to Connect Challenge is looking to help civil society develop their early stage ideas for tech that enables more or better interactions between people. Tech can be alienating or divisive for those that are isolated, so we want to help civil society translate their knowledge into good ideas for new ways to connect people.

RSA: The Power of People for Transformative Change – “Connect: Create: Collaborate” Thursday 8th August from our friend Michelle Preston

” What are the differences between community, network and movement? Join us at this one day conference to explore and understand how connected communities, nurturing networks and meaningful movements provide opportunities for us all to “connect: create: collaborate”. “

We also spotted this – a practical film about it showing in BATH, SCREENING OF ‘STEVE’ this Wednesday. They are our brothers/fathers/friends/partners or children and we know of far too many of our members affected so well worth a look.

… and as part of PRIDE we spotted a techy related event Pride of Science on Friday the 5th

We are also involved with a new technical Advisory board with UWE and they have just announced their new masters 1 year Full-time/2 year part-time MSc Financial Technology has been validated, which we love as it spans Finance and Tech, and is a great course to do to help transfer into a very vast growing sector of the Tech world.

Wednesday really is the new Black

Wednesday - Hump Day

Looks like its a busy Wednesday .. it is the Business showcase but it seems like everyone loves a Wednesday, we have even managed to clash with ourselves – running our Bristol GGD #76 Digital Exclusion and Double Diamonds with BJSS with our workshop Wednesdays (more details below!). Hopefully, it means we will all be well fed with pizza by the end of the night and we are obviously on trend!

Our other news is that we have now set up a jobs board which allows our Tech3Shed Careers Fair sponsors and our Women’s tech Hub members to advertise their roles as part of their member/sponsorship offerings. The sponsorship package for being part of the Bristol Tech Fair is also ready this week so mail us on info@bristoltechfair.org for info! .. there will be more info coming in the next few weeks! There also happen to be a couple of big Conferences on this week

B-sides – which is a massive London cyber Conference

What is BSides Bristol?

BSides Bristol is a two-day infosec community event run under the BSides Security movement. It’s the first BSides event to be run in the south west following the success of other UK BSides events like BSides London and BSides Manchester, with a seperate core team. It’s coming to town this week 20th – 21st June 2019 at UWE

Who should come?

Absolutely anybody interested in InfoSec disciplines like Penetration Testing, Digital Forensics, Incident Response, or generic Cyber Security. You don’t have to work in InfoSec to attend; all you need is a spark of interest! We’re hoping to capture a pool of cyber-ness from the south west primarily, attracting people from Bristol, Cardiff, Bath and Gloucester, as well as visitors from around the country and the world.
