Spread some Christmas Cheer and support the children!

Big Call of the week!!

DigiLocal has set up a crowdfunding campaign DigiLocal Crowdfunding.  The work that they do to support getting children into coding, working tirelessly into the weekends and evenings for little reward we recognise.  We love the fact that It’s been so succesful based on what we see as plain air and tenacity, working on encouraging inclusion into the realm of Tech – we are in awe!  Everyone wants to ensure theres an inclusive talent pipeline coming through so we would love to see all Tech companies to put thair hands into their pockets in this festive season and support this (it’s that or we put out a John lewis style Christmas AD about it .. just replacing the Piano with a laptop)

Now where are all the xmas parties…

Conferences and Collaborations

collaborative working
We had a great turnout for our first collaborative project last tuesday at CodeHub, they kindly supplied pizzas for us.  As we are quite a large (and hungry) group,  we would love to get some sponsored pizzas.  You can mail us on info@wthub.org if you fancy it (think poor starving geeks).
We started out looking at the use-case and followed with a github setup, a dedicated slack channel thread  and being tasked with scoping out the business as a whole(I think it may be called homework!).
It’s a great opportunity to work through all the layers of a project and you don’t need any skills to join in, so feel free to pop along,  just sign up here CodeHub.

Collaborative working on ‘do good’ projects anyone?

working group women
We know that a lot of our members are currently trying hard to get into the tech industry and could do with some practical support on their upskilling.
So .. we’ve teamed up with the lovely CodeHub lot, who are going to allow us to run teams at their bi-weekly hacks to test out our skills on live projects.  We welcome helpers to support, especially if you have accidentally fallen into a PM role and missing your old skills!
We currently have a charity and a pre-startup health tech company both keen on getting some support.  It is unpaid as we are helping out for charities and non tech groups or WTF members to let us play with their project, help us help one another learn great skills and gain a portfolio.

The first one is this tuesday so short notice but feel free to pop along if you are free or join up to a later one, sign up here CodeHub.

Voxxed Days & Bath Digital Festival

This week we are really excited to have been invited to Voxxed Days.
It’s on the 25th October @ the watershed in Bristol with sessions on topics including Cloud, Big Data, AI, Robotics, Programming Languages, Java, Security, Architecture and Developer.  They have managed to get a 25% female speaker lineup this year which we love and also given us a 30% discount to all our members (which we love even more) so mail us and we can send you the code on info@wthub.org.
