Description

– Salary: £41,732 – £46,974 per annum
– School/Unit: Faculty of Engineering

The role
The Faculty of Engineering is looking to recruit a skilled and motivated postdoc in a Senior Research Associate role to join the pro² network+ team.

You will bring skills and expertise in digital device production, from a range of possible backgrounds that could include Human-Computer Interaction, IoT Device Design, Electronic Engineering or Digital Manufacturing.

The pro² network+ is an EPSRC-funded network that aims to improve the transition process from prototype to product for digital devices. We are helping to form and inform a community of people who share the common goal of accelerating the production of digital devices that can improve our everyday lives. Learn more about the network at www.prosquared.org.

The University of Bristol is the lead partner in the Network which is made up of both academic and industry-based collaborators.

This is a 18-month position with the possibility of extension based on funding availability and performance.

What will you be doing?
– Drawing on existing network outcomes that have developed an understanding of the challenges that device production faces, you will be responsible for synthesising data and conducting research on the design tools, collaboration platforms, materials, processes and infrastructure which could overcome key challenges in the device production pipeline.

– You will create a comprehensive map of the future systems and standards that need to be established in order to facilitate interoperability across the pipeline for low-volume digital device manufacture.

– The results of the research will be used to inform the network funding call themes and future activities.

– You will additionally be required to gather and analyse data on manufacturing markets for a selection of digital devices, the results of which will form part of the context for network activities.

– In addition to the above key duties, you will also be expected to publish research findings in high-impact conferences and journals, present results at seminars, and contribute to the preparation of grant proposals to secure additional research funding. This may require occasional travel.

You should apply if
Candidates should have the following qualifications and experience:

– A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
– Expertise in prototyping and production of digital devices.
– Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
– Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
