Talk 1: What a sneaky gorilla taught me about security awareness – Laura Pooley

In this talk, Laura will share how one sneaky gorilla helped shape her career path and sparked her interest in the human element of security. She will explore the practical realities of running awareness activities and some successful approaches she’s discovered along the way.

About the speaker: Laura is a Senior Information Security Officer at Jisc, working to embed good security practice and support colleagues to increase their security awareness through comms and activities. She graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Cyber Security Management and has worked at Jisc since, getting involved in a range of projects and in recent years has created and run a company-wide annual phishing tournament.

Talk 2: Hello, World; Goodbye, Worksheet. The Path from Whiteboard to Dashboard – Charlotte Young

Charlotte will be talking about her journey from Maths teacher & Product Owner to BI Analyst & Data Engineer, through the lens of what it’s meant to become a learner after so many years of facilitating the learning of others.

About the speaker: Charlotte entered the Jisc Graduate programme nearly two years ago, seeking a new direction in her career. She has spent most of the time at Jisc in Business Intelligence and Data Engineering, and hopes to remain in this field at the end of the scheme. Her degree is in Maths, and she has worked as a Maths teacher and Product Owner in Educational Publishing for over two decades.
